When I was younger my great grandfather used to tell me stories about when he and his brother went to Persia to work for BP in the 1920's. He initially was a driver of one of the Caterpillar trains delivering supplies and equipment to the drilling crews in the desert.

The photograph below to the right shows my great grandfather with his brother performing some routine maintenance.

Caterpillar train ready to set off, the man in the white suit and pith helmet is my Great Grandfather who by this time had become Transport Manager.

There was some leisure time to be had in the midst of all this toing and froing in the desert and one of the main ones was Horse Racing, below is a photograph of my Great Grandfather, Alec as we will call him from now on, excercising one of his Horses.
